Computing differential characteristic sets by change of ordering

We describe an algorithm for converting a characteristic set of a prime differential ideal from one ranking into another. This algorithm was implemented in many different languages and has been applied within various software and projects. It permitted to solve formerly unsolved problems.

Computing Characteristic Sets of Ordinary Radical Differential Ideals

We give upper bounds for the order of the elements in a characteristic set of a regular differential ideal or a radical of a finitely generated differential ideal with respect to some specific orderings. We then show how to compute characteristic sets of these ideals using algebraic methods. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 12H05, 13B25, 13P10.

Computing constraint sets for differential fields

Kronecker’s Theorem and Rabin’s Theorem are fundamental results about computable fields F and the decidability of the set of irreducible polynomials over F . We adapt these theorems to the setting of differential fields K, with constrained pairs of differential polynomials over K assuming the role of the irreducible polynomials. We prove that two of the three basic aspects of Kronecker’s Theore...

A New Algorithmic Scheme for Computing Characteristic Sets

Ritt-Wu’s algorithm of characteristic sets is the most representative for triangularizing sets of multivariate polynomials. Pseudo-division is the main operation used in this algorithm. In this paper we present a new algorithmic scheme for computing generalized characteristic sets by introducing other admissible reductions than pseudo-division. A concrete subalgorithm is designed to triangulari...

Partial Ordering Unit Tests by Coverage Sets

A single software fault may cause several unit tests to break, if they cover the same methods. The coverage sets of unit tests may not just overlap, but include one another. This information could be of great use to developers who would like to focus on the most specific test that concerns a given fault. Unfortunately, existing unit testing tools neither gather nor exploit this information. We ...
